Size Matters
The most popular size for a child’s room is the twin bed or single bed which measures 39′ wide and 75′ long. There is also the extra long single bed. It is as wide as the regular twin bed but is 80′ long. The extra length means it is often used for teens, but there’s no reason why a child can’t use it.
The other bed sizes are the double bed or full bed (54″ wide x 75″ in length), the queen bed (60″ wide and 80″ long) and the king (76 x 80). The California king measures 72″ x 84″, the longest available.
Platform Bed Types
There are many choices, but the most popular children’s platform bed type is the mate’s or captain’s bed. The captain’s bed has the mattress placed on top of a drawer combination or cubbyholes.

Materials

However, they are equal to wood in terms of durability. Other types you can choose from are laminates, wood veneers, timber, metal and Asian hardwood.
Other Considerations
If you are purchasing this type of bed for the first time, keep in mind that it might feel firmer without the box spring under it. If it’s going to be too firm for the child, look for a platform bed that can be adjusted to fit the needed height. You might also consider a bed with elevating features. This will allow the child to watch TV comfortably.
