Child’s Bedroom
Here are some suggestions on how to organize a child’s bedroom. The important thing is to start early, so the child will realize the benefits of keeping their room organized and tidy. By instilling the habits now, the child will remember and keep them up.
Organize Clothes and Toys
Place an armoire or drawers in the room. Arrange the socks, underwear, t-shirts, pants etc in separate drawers. Show this to the child so they will know where the garments go. Do the same thing with their toys. You can use baskets, bins or plastic containers. If the child is young, you should use clear containers.
Separate the Study and Play Areas
Group the study desk, bookshelf and drawers containing the study tools together. In a separate area of the child’s bedroom, put the drawer with all the toys and knickknacks. Teach the child early on to keep it this way. They will soon recognize how easy it is to find what they’re looking for.
The Focal Point
This will almost always be the bed. If you are putting furniture in the room, remember that the bed will be the main focus. Always keep that in mind when putting the furniture together. It will make the room tidier.
Measurement is Key
In particular, pay attention to the space between walls, windows, corners etc. This is necessary so you will know if that dresser will actually fit.
If space is an issue, put the furniture in the corner. This will give you space in the center of the room. Other important areas you should check out are the outlets and doors. Take note of the door width too; make sure the furniture you buy can actually fit through the door.
Again, emphasis should be on space. List all the furniture you want to put in ‘dressers, desks, bookcases- and their measurements. Is there enough room for all the furniture without eating up too much space?
Tips and Warnings
Don’t position the bed where it can block entry into the room. The bed shouldn’t impede the use of the closet either. It’s imperative that furniture in a child’s room doesn’t have any sharp edges. Inspect the electrical connections there regularly. Regular cleaning is of course a must.
Take your time when setting up the child’s bedroom. Apart from the spacing, it’s important that you buy quality furniture. They may be expensive, but at least you are assured they will last.
