There are also safety rails that are connected by the side of the mattress frame. This design is not recommended for children who are just making the move from crib to bed. The reason is that there is a chance they will be trapped between the mattress and the rails. This rail design is more suitable for kids who are a little older.

You can try these when the child has gotten used to sleeping on the bed. If the bed is in the middle of the room, make sure there are safety rails on both sides of the bed.

Other Considerations

Read the instructions thoroughly. Even the more secure safety rails won’t be able to protect your child if they’re not installed properly. Don’t buy rails with mesh attachments; there have been some cases of children getting stuck in these.

If you can’t find mattresses that attach to the mattress top, look for rails that connect to the bottom of the mattress. After the rails are installed, examine it closely. Do not put the child there until you are sure the rails are properly configured.
